Subject: Cal Signs! Date: Wed, 15 Jul 1998 21:21:19 -0400 (EDT) From: Don Dudley - Sun Microsystems To: TAWyatt@MediaOne.com Tracey -- Baltimoron and Oriole Fan, You might know that I was able to extend my Colorado vacation last week for purposes of attending the 69th All-Star Game at beautiful Coors Field. (Jan and Maura came back on July 2nd, mostly so that Maura could celebrate her 18th birthday at home.) My cousin partners with another guy for a pair of season tickets and I was able to sit with him. At the eleventh hour, I was able to get Leah a seat, too, from one of the three season ticket holders that partners with my brother. I traded my Home Run Derby ticket, the rights to the Glory Beanie Baby (little did I know:-() and the difference in face value of the two tickets for an All-star Game ticket. Whereas my seat with my cousin was in Row 28 down left field a couple of sections, a perfectly good seat, she sat w/ my brother in Row 7 of the alcohol-free section even with third base. Anticipating that she might have the opportunity to get an autograph from some low-life like Ken Griffey Jr., I bit the bullet and purchased a $16 Official All-Star baseball at Fan Fest earlier in the day. (At the Fan Fest, I was able to get autographs from Ralph Branca, Goose Gossage -- who is from Colorado Springs and once faced my brother, Don Larsen, Robin Roberts and Bob Gibson, if you happen to have heard of any of those guys :-).) Well anyway, she did quite a bit better than that. During batting practice, Cal Ripken Jr. came over and signed her ball. He spent a total of 45-60 minutes signing. Given her long-time adoration of Lou Gehrig and his ethic, there couldn't have been a more perfect player's signature for her to get. She brought the ball up to me and couldn't have been more thrilled. Maura's heads off to Johns Hopkins next month. Need I remind you that we weren't quite able to pull off getting there on September 5, 1995, but we're all hoping that this affords us some opportunities to get to Camden Yards over the next four years. Hope all is well with you. Regards, Don
